US Blocks UN Human Rights Measures Calling Them “Woke”

The United States has twice stood alone at the United Nations, voting against long-standing human rights resolutions and calling them too “woke” to support. Last month, deputy US representative Jonathan Shrier condemned two UN measures protecting humanitarian and UN personnel, dismissing them as “nothing more than a globalist wish list of divisive cultural causes.” Ahead of the votes, US officials objected to what they described as highly controversial language, arguing the texts conflated LGBTQ and other sexual rights with reproductive healthcare.

According to LGBTQ+ Nation, the US was the only country to vote against both resolutions in December, breaking three decades of consensus adoption. Defending the decision, Shrier said the Trump administration would not advance radical gender ideology in the UN, adding the policies “distract from and directly undermine the real work to protect and promote the rights of women and girls around the world.” He went further, accusing UN members of being obsessed with what he called gender insanity.

European Union representative Christina Markus Lassen warned against politicising basic protections, saying humanitarian workers face growing threats worldwide. Delegates from the UK and Indonesia cautioned that blocking the measures could cost lives, especially in conflict zones like Gaza.
