Netflix Data Raises New Questions After Cancellation of Queer-Favorite “Boots”

Fans are still asking why Netflix canceled Boots, and new data only deepens the mystery. Netflix’s latest Engagement Report, covering July through December 2025, shows Boots ranked as the platform’s 23rd most-watched TV series, with 30.7 million hours viewed. That performance outpaced several shows that were renewed, including The Witcher season four, The Diplomat season three, and Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black season two.

It also narrowly beat Nobody Wants This season two, which premiered the same month, had more episodes, slightly fewer viewers, and was still renewed for a third season. Another queer-centered series, The Hunting Wives, posted nearly identical numbers and earned a second season. Industry reporting suggests cost may have played a role. Boots faced long delays from the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, plus story changes that led to reshoots and rising expenses. Political speculation has also surfaced, after a Pentagon official reportedly dismissed the show as woke garbage, though no direct link has been established.
