Empire Stage presents “The Sum of Us” from today through March 15. This play was written by David Stevens and premiered in 1990 at the Cherry Lane Theatre in NYC. The story revolves around Harry, a widowed father, and his gay son Jeff. The play explores their close relationship as they both seek love and companionship in their lives. Harry is supportive of Jeff’s search for a partner, while he himself is looking for female companionship through a dating service. The play was later adapted into a film starring Russell Crowe. “The Sum of Us” is a poignant exploration of love and acceptance, focusing on the relationship between a father and his gay son. Towering sculptures, exquisite glasswork, breathtaking photography, mixed media, fiber art, woodwork, paintings created from multiple media and much more await visitors to the Las Olas Art Fair Part II. The free, two-day epic art walk takes place along the iconic boulevard today and tomorrow, Sunday, March 1, from 10am to 5pm. 24–time Emmy Award-winning director and producer Nick Nanton—dubbed “America’s Biographer” by Larry King—along with Astonish Entertainment and Abundance Studios, will unveil the world festival premiere of Guy Harvey at the 40th Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF). The film, an awe-inspiring cinematic portrait of world-renowned marine wildlife artist, scientist, conservationist, entrepreneur, and educator Dr. Guy Harvey, will screen today at 6:30pm at the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with cast and crew. The Miami Beach Orchid Society is pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Orchids & Arts Festival. This two-day festival will celebrate all things orchids featuring premium orchid vendors, captivating art and jewelry, orchid education from world-renowned experts, and hourly raffles. The Boward Center for the Performing Arts presents the Broadway touring company of “Hell’s Kitchen” today through Sunday March 22. Ali is a 17-year-old girl full of fire – searching for freedom, passion and her place in the world. How she finds them is a New York City coming-of-age story you’ve never felt before.
