Police in Florida City have arrested 41-year-old Grether Leidy Guadarramas Pena on a felony child abuse charge after she allegedly attacked a young male family member over messages expressing his homosexuality. According to investigators, the boy’s private messages and images were discovered on Discord by a sibling and shared with another family member.
He was then forced to stand facing a wall until Pena returned home. An officer reported that Pena grabbed him by the arm and took him into the kitchen, where she took a knife and held the boy’s arm against the counter. The boy’s arm was allegedly cut before another family member intervened. She also reportedly cut his hair. The incident came to light after the boy told a teacher. A judge has found probable cause. The case highlights ongoing safety concerns for LGBTQ+ youth, particularly when they are outed at home.
