Speaking on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast on Wednesday, Journalist and TV host Gayle King recalled urging Oprah Winfrey to publicly deny speculation that the two were secretly a couple. King said, “I would say to her, ‘You’ve got to say something on your show, because it’s hard enough for me to get a date on a Saturday night and now people think I’m a lesbian, you’ve gotta say something.”
King shared that the rumors intensified after her 1993 divorce and peaked in the late 1990s and mid-2000s. She added, “If we were gay, we would tell you because believe me, there’s nothing wrong with it.”
King and Winfrey, friends since 1976, have repeatedly addressed the rumors publicly while praising their close bond and support for LGBTQ+ visibility.
