What’s Hot

July 16, 2009

What’s hot around town, what to do, where to go and the hottest toys and gifts!

July 4th weekend ended with a packed Saturday night at Sidelines (see pictures in this week’s magazine) and a phenomenal T Cruise where the boat was sold out. Keep in mind that Peter Burke will be celebrating the 5th anniversary of the T Cruise August 2nd, but get your tickets now as this will surely sell out! After the cruise I went over to Scandals, who welcomed 99.9 KISS Country and their staff. They gave away lots of prizes, including 2 concert tickets to the Kenny Chesney concert. I ended the night with Ric Sena’s inaugural Alegria party in Fort Lauderdale, which did not disappoint. The party was held at Exit 66,and the boys were definitely out to play. Believe it or not, after a busy weekend I somehow found the energy to treck out on Monday to Alibi to see the one and only Lady Bunny, who as usual was hilarious. I heard her shows on Tuesday at Bill’s and Wednesday back at Alibi were just as good. After going directly home from work Tuesday and Wednesday, Thursday a couple of the Hotspots gang and some friends went to Zucherello’s for dinner. This is definitely one of our favorite places and some of the best Italian food around.  On Friday I went to Bill’s for their monthly bear contest hosted by Miss Kitty. The finals will be September 11th where the winner will receive $1,000 in cash and a free cruise from Freedom Travel. Saturday night a few friends and I headed down to South Beach for the 2 year anniversary of Halo, which was so packed there was a 20 minute wait to get in. Congrats to Babek and Jason for creating such an original and successful establishment for the gay community and here’s wishing them many more years of success. Afterwards I went down the block to Score’s Bigger Saturdays, which featured the DJ debut premiere event of DJ William Umana who rocked the dance floor all night. I was there with my friends Harry D, Noel Leon and Nikki Whyte who was celebrating her birthday. A special thanks goes out to Asia Aviance at the door and host Michael Stanley for the VIP service!

Did you know that in Boise, Idaho fishing from a camel or giraffe’s back is illegal? That in Malibu, California laughing out loud in a movie theater could be considered disturbing the peace? That in Massachusetts tomatoes are not allowed in clam chowder? These are among the many laughable laws and wacky court cases detailed in a humorous new book titled “The Wacky World of Laws” (Paperback, $16.95 U.S.), written by Jeff Isaac, AKA “The Lawyer in Blue Jeans.”  “With the current legal landscape dominated by a glut of hard and downright depressing news, Americans are sorely in need of a quick chuckle on the ‘softer side of the law,’” notes Isaac, principal attorney at The Lawyer in Blue Jeans Group and a San Diego-area TV and radio personality.  “With the United States churning out upwards of 500,000 new laws each
year and 2 million regulations annually, this book is written for those who want a good laugh at the expense of the legal system and who relish being the hit of water cooler conversation.” “The Wacky World of Laws” is a compilation of U.S. and international laws and court cases that are decidedly out of the ordinary. “The Wacky World of Laws” is available for purchase online at BarnesAndNoble.com, Amazon.com and LawyerInBlueJeans.com (purchase site for the 15% discount)
