Last Friday I headed down to South Beach because I had to get up early Saturday for Miami Beach Gay Pride. After eating dinner with friends at Next Café (delish, by the way) I decided to take advantage of being in walking distance to many of the bars and went to Score for their Filthy Gorgeous Fridays, which was wall to wall people. Afterwards I finally had a chance to check out Edison Farrow’s Hype Fridays (which was also my first time at 721 Lounge) and this place is super cool. It has a very comfortable, loungy feeling. Kudos to the designer for creating such a chic, upscale, yet comfortable atmosphere. My last stop was Mova, which is always a fun place to be. Then it was off to bed as the alarm was going off at 7 am.

Saturday morning we went to Miami AIDS Walk, which once again was a success, and then ran to the beach to start setting up the Hotspots display at 9 am. Miami Beach Gay Pride was amazing in its inaugural year last year, but this year was even better. I don’t know what the official numbers were, but I am sure it was well over 25,000 people. The parade lasted for over 1 hour and the festival was busy from opening at 12 noon to closing at 8 pm. The featured performances on the main stage were Robin S., Crystal Waters (who turned up the PURE LOVE), Estelle and a two and a half hour set by DJ Danny Tenaglia. Saturday night I went to Discotekka for their 3rd anniversary, which was a tribute to the cinema and featured skits by house divas Vegas Dion, TP Lords, Gina D’Angelo, Victoria Sky and Poizon Ivy. As usual the club was packed.

The Florida Gay Rodeo Association presented the 5th Annual Sunshine Stampede, which I attended on Sunday to a packed house. I heard from co-workers that Saturday was just as busy. In addition, Scandals Saloon, an official sponsor of the FGRA and a platinum corporate sponsor of the Sunshine Stampede, was packed all weekend both in the bar and in the VIP Ranch. From the opening party on Friday to the closing party on Sunday, Scandals was wall to wall men! Congratulations go out to the Miami Beach Gay Pride board, Wendy, Joe, Vegas, Danny, Milancita and the staff at Discotekka, the FGRA and Ken, Lloyd and the staff at Scandals for such a fabulous weekend!

Sidelines starts their Sizzlin’ Summer Cook-off Competition tonight with a chili cook-off. On May 23rd they will have a BBQ ribs cook-off followed by a hot wings cook-off on June 27th. On July 25th they will present the finals of the summer cook-off competition with prizes awarded to the top 3 chefs.

Madison’s Ultimat Martini Madness presents a new way to play the game show “Lets Make a Deal” from 7 to 9 pm at the Manor. The night is hosted by Dale Madison and Nicolette and they will be giving away over $2,500 in prizes.
