A huge thank you and congratulations to St. Pete Pride 2010 for a job well done! Just for the record, Mark & Carrie, owners of MC Film, were at the very first St. Pete Pride meeting, did the very first St. Pete Pride fundraiser and have supported and been in every St. Pete Pride celebration.

St. Pete Pride is a time to build many bridges, like bridges between: the gay and straight communities; the gay, lesbian, leather, bear, drag and trans communities; GLBTA and corporate America; Tampa Bay-West Coast of Florida and GLBTA people across America and the world and, yes, between the Tampa and St. Pete LGBTA communities. As co-founders and President of the GaYBOR District Coalition, we recognize and acknowledge the importance of these many bridges. That is why the GaYBOR District Coalition didn’t hesitate at all to throw its full support to St. Pete Pride. The GaYBOR District Coalition provided support through advertising, our float, beads, giveaways, our many members’ booths, printing, decorations, insurance, etc., which came to over $8,000. We have no regrets and only wish we could have done more. St. Pete Pride 2010 is now behind us for this year and we all are looking forward to next year! It is time our whole community starts to build those bridges not only at Pride, but 365 days a year.

An example of a bridge is the very magical one that Hamburger Mary’s is building between the GLBTA and straight communities. On safe common ground both worlds are learning that we really aren’t all that different. It is amazing to see 3, 4, 5 and 10 year olds tipping drag queens and GLBTA teenagers bringing their parents. Talk about community spirit! Every Wednesday Mary’s has BINGO for a local charity. So far they have raised over $10,000. BINGO starts at 7:30 and you get 10 games for $10. They have already supported St. Pete Pride, Metro Wellness Centers, AIDS RIDE, TIGLFF, A.S.A.P. and the list goes on. Thank you, Hamburger Mary’s!

It takes a lot for us to be wowed and that is just what happened at Gaspar’s Grotto Sunday Brunch in Ybor City! With the completion of their new kitchen, Gaspar’s is out to impress you and they are doing it! As your brunch starts you are given a carafe of vodka. Hmm, enough vodka for 3 drinks, then you’re escorted to the build your own Bloody Mary/Mimosa bar! As you return to your table there is a brown bag with hot, fresh-cooked beignets in powered sugar waiting for you. It’s time to ship out and head for the WOW buffet! On one end there are 4 hot trays with all the basics: eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy and more. On the other end is a fresh seafood display: oysters on the half shell, shrimp, mussels and snow crab, all on a bed of ice. In between are an impressive, wide display of salads, desserts, cheese and meats. There is also a build your own bagel station complete with a huge tray of lox! After a trip to the buffet we were stuffed! Just then they come by and give you a complete specialty breakfast menu to choose one more of their hot specialties! All of this, drinks and all you can eat for only $24.95. On the Sunday we were there it was also a benefit for GaYBOR and over 70 LGBT friends were there, too. With the choice of eating inside or outside this could become habit forming fast! Gaspar’s Grotto is a proud member of the GaYBOR District Coalition!
