Last Week in Review

The Varsity Club, along with GLBX, WIN, iBeria Bank, Metro Media Works, and Fast Printz came together for the 6th annual Judy Shepherd Back Pack Drive at the Pride Center benefiting Thurgood Marshall Elementary. Later that night was the opening party of Creative Male by owners Bruce and Ben in midtown Miami took place Thursday Aug 11 with DJ Mike spinning and the boys from Johnny’s Miami modeling suits by Elite underwear, Andrew Christian and Diesel to name a few. The party continued at Jonny Miami later with a full line of suit’s and boys to sport them. Friday night Bubble Gum Fridays introduced the Lip Sync For Your Life Contest hosted by Daisy Deadpetals and the crowds came out as this was by far the busiest Friday at the Manor. Seen there was superstar Olivia Newton John.

Saturday morning was the 21st annual Poverello Bowl-a-thon and as usual this was a huge fundraiser with around 50 teams bowling to raise moeny for Poverello. Congratulations to Father Bill, Dale Madison and the entire Poverello team for another successful year. Afterwards Bill’s had the official after party as they raised the most money the previous year. The teams came out to party and partake in the free buffet that Jackson and Mark were generous enough to offer.

The Creative Male party then continued at Discotekka Saturday Aug 13th for “Bare if you Dare” underwear party and fashion show by Creative Male. Visit Creative Male to get your fashions in check. Sunday I headed to South Beach for the monthly Latin T-Dance at the Palace, which packs the crowd in there with great drag shows and even some fabulous Brazilian dancers in traditional costume… Lots of fun!

The Manor transforms the Ivy Lounge into The Laugh Lounge Comedy Club once a month, where headline comics from across the country perform live standup comedy. Full dinner and tapas menus are available before and during the show. Tonight they are doing a very special show which will be a benefit for Bernadette. Bernadette Zizzo has been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Over the years Bernadette has given of herself and now it is time for the community to give back to her. Chloe Dolandis will perform original songs from her album “Bring Back the Fever” at Mojo Restaurant and Bar in starting at 7:30 pm. The twelve songs include “New Suit,” her hot debut single from the album and video filmed at Mojo. Chloe’s singing is a stylistic blend reminiscent of Aretha Franklin, Michael Buble, Stevie Wonder and Bette Midler. This girl can wail, then in the next song settle down for a sexy jazz riff, then pick the beat up again for a majestic groove! The Royal Palms Resort and Spa presents their monthly T Dance, this month starring DJs Lydia Prim and Jason Gonzales from 4 to 8 pm.

The Manor presents the celebrity roast cabaret show tribute of Victor Zepka starting at 8pm. The celebrity roast mob will be Sean David, Tiffany Arieagus, Michael Beamish, Pompano Bill, Auntie Mame, Paul Hugo, Norm Kent and Michael Murphy with performances by Tiffany, Nikki Adams, Erika Norell, Victoria Michaels, Aunti Mame, Champagne Bordeaux, Sasha Sommers and Justice Royale and Joe Posa as Joan Rivers as the hostess. The incomparable Barbra Streisand’s long-cherished desire to release an album of music with lyrics exclusively written by her collaborators and friends, Alan and Marilyn Bergman, will be achieved with her latest release What Matters Most – Barbra Streisand Sings the Lyrics of Alan and Marilyn Bergman for Columbia Records.  The ten song album, and deluxe edition, will be available August 23, 2011 so start lining up!   What Matters Most is Ms. Streisand’s first new album since the September 2009 release of Love Is The Answer, which debuted at Number One, making her the only artist to achieve number one albums in five consecutive decades. The new album, which Streisand personally produced, is comprised of ten Bergman songs which Streisand has never previously recorded. Included in the set are the Academy Award winning songs “The Windmills of Your Mind” (from the 1968 film The Thomas Crown Affair);  “So Many Stars” (originally a hit song for Sergio Mendes &  Brazil ’66); “Nice ‘n’ Easy” (popularized by Frank Sinatra); and “That Face” (first recorded by Fred Astaire) . 

The CD will be packaged in a jewel box with a 24-page color booklet. The deluxe edition CD will include ten previously released performances of Barbra singing the lyrics of Alan and Marilyn Bergman including “The Way We Were”, “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers”, “Papa Can You Hear Me?” and “Pieces of Dreams”. According to the RIAA, Barbra Streisand is the #1 best selling female recording artist in history and the only woman to make the Top 10 all time best selling artists list, which includes Elvis Presley and The Beatles.
