RuPaul’s Drag Race – Dwayne Milan

London, Paris — no it was Milan who sashayed away in week 6 of season 4 of Ru Paul’s Drag Race! This week was a Gay Pride Parade boat challenge and Willam anchored away the win, with honorable mentions going to Florida’s own Latrice Royale, and the exotic Phi Phi O’Hara. There are only 7 “Girls” left, who will win? Stay tuned to find out!

At what age did female impersonation become an interest?
At 8 as I was watching my mother walking around the apartment looking so beautiful!

How did you pick your name?
In College I went to a modeling convention and it was Halloween and we all got in drag and picked names. I picked Milan as I thought that’s where all the models go and I wanted a name that was androgynous and original. I am now going by Dwayne Milan as I was inspired by Chad Michaels and Willam who kept their real names.

How did you go about getting on “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Tell me about the experience?
Like everybody else I submitted a tape and the questionnaire. They called and I got the gig on my first try. It was a roller coaster and definitely much harder than I expected it to be, but I had a lot of fun through the hardship. I learned a lot from the other girls and overall I would say it was a wonderful experience. I feel really blessed. I would sincerely like to say thanks to all the fans!

Who do you want to win?
I want Latrice to win because she has the biggest heart, she genuinely cares, does not play the victim and delivers when its time to deliver!

Tell me about the man behind Milan?
Dwayne is the actor and Milan is the actress. They are like twins as I don’t see them as 2 different people.

Tell me something people would be surprised to know about you.
That I actually like Willam, I really do.

What’s ahead for Milan?
I was a songwriter, writer, actor on Broadway before doing the show and now I am going back to push the boundaries more. I am also releasing 2 songs; the first song is called “Major” on the Peace Biscuit label and the second is “Keep Holding On,” which is a positive anthem about staying true to yourself on the Qubonics label. I am also co-producing a show with Lady Bunny in New York every Wednesday at XL bar and it’s called “Hot Mess.” I would also love to do a drag sketch comedy show and a pop “Girl” group; like a drag version of the Spice Girls. I want to show all the avenues that can be used for drag. If anyone is interested I am looking for producers or investors.
