Bears take over Fort Lauderdale

BeachBear Weekend (Thursday May 10 through Monday, May 14) was created by Bob Young, Shannon Spotts, Todd Eller and Chad Bush to bring men to greater Fort Lauderdale to experience the best all of the treasures. The weekend will be a cruise that doesn’t leave port featuring world class beaches, the nearby Everglades, Fort Lauderdale’s wild nightlife and restaurants shopping and many other attractions, all to make sure the attendees have a wild time.

When asked how this event got started Bob Young (owner of Slammers) said “I stareted Lazy Bear weekend on the west coast and when I moved to South Florida I immediately wanted to do the same thing here, but I stepped back and took a few years to organize it and put an amazing group of guys together. I am so excited about what we have put together and I know its going to be a great weekend for the bear community as every bear loves a beach and no other bear event has one.”

BeachBear Weekend will take advantage of a lot of Greater Fort Lauderdale including the gay mecca of Wilton Manors. The host hotel on the beach is the Courtyard Fort Lauderdale Beach, by Marriott at 440 Seabreeze Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale.

“This event is proof that the great city of Fort Lauderdale can come together to host an incredible event with 10 bars, 8 retailers, 16 restaurants and 2 private clubs all in the name of charity” said Chad Bush.

Proceeds from this event will benefit Sunserve – a 501 (3) (c) corporation. This local charity recognizes the entire LGBTQ community has the right to quality care. Their mission is to provide critical life assistance and professional mental health services with an emphasis on the economically disadvantaged, marginalized youths, and senior adults in Greater Fort Lauderdale. Additional charities designated at this time include the Abandoned Pet Rescue. Join the migration this May and help fund these charities while enjoying an incredible weekend.

When asked why they picked Sunserve Shannon Spotts said “Sunserve is an amazing nonprofit organization offering services to our very unique and diverse gay community. They support gay youth going through the rougher high school years to the large retired portion of our community and much more.”

Chad Bush went on to say “The team at Sunserve has been so supportive and wonderful to work with. Andy Forester and Mark Ketchum are creative and very hard workers.”

The Pride Factory is the registration Center for Beach Bear weekend and all pre registered guests can pick up their free pass, dog tags and registration packes there Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 10 pm.

When asked what their future plans for Beach Bear Weekend are Spotts said “Beach Bear Weekend will only get bigger and better in the years to come, but the goal will be the same, to have a whole lot of fun and raise money for our community.”
