Who’s Hot – Colin Farrell

Ireland’s Smoking Hot Bad Boy Has Cleaned UP His Act

As we crank up the voting for Who’s Hot, we want to spotlight some of the contestants who are making on impact on behalf of the gay community, or who are “family” themselves. Who better to kickoff this spotlight than Colin Farrell who is definitely one of the hottest actors on the face of the planet, and in my humble opinion, THE Hottest Irishman as well! Currently he is in 15th place in the Who’s Hot contest with only 3% of the vote, but I’ve asked the new pope AND St. Patrick for some intervention… Still waiting on word from both! All jokes aside, this Hollywood “A Lister” is not just a looker, he’s also fighting to end homophobia in his native Ireland, as well as around the world. Last year, he launched a “Stand Up! Don’t Stand for Homophobic Bullying” campaign, along with his brother Eamon, who just so happens to be gay.

Farrell has spoken openly about witnessing his brother being bullied when they were kids, so he knows firsthand the effect it can have on our community.

In a statement he made at the campaign’s launch in 2012, he stated: “Each individual, as a member of his and her community, must Stand Up! In the face of this appalling brutality that plagues our schools,” Colin says in a statement. “In effect, bullying is no less than the systematic doling out of pain upon the innocent. It is literally laughing in the face of somebody as they fall into increasingly grave danger. It’s not my place to draw parallels, but we have had enough of such hardships. The world has.”

Colin Farrell is one of Ireland’s best known stars in Hollywood and abroad today. His film presence has been filled with memorable roles that range from an inwardly tortured hit man, to an adventurous explorer, a determined-but-failing writer, and the greatest military leader in history.

Born on May 31, 1976 in Castleknock, Dublin, Ireland, his father and uncle were both professional athletes, and for a while, it looked like Farrell would follow in their footsteps. Farrell auditioned for a part in the Irish Boy Band, Boyzone, but it didn’t work out. After dropping out of The Gaiety School of Acting, Farrell was cast in “Ballykissangel” (1996), a BBC television drama. He was cast in The War Zone (1999), directed by Tim Roth and had appeared in the independent film Drinking Crude (1997). Farrell was soon to move on to bigger things.

For quite some time in Hollywood, Farrell was seen as a bad boy, but since the mid-2000’s, he has cleaned up his act, and far from being a Hollywood hell raiser and party animal, Farrell has shown himself to be a respectable and very talented actor.
