Pride South Florida is celebrating its 37th year in 2014 and continuing its mission to promote and engage in educational, civic and cultural activities in order to enrich the lives of gays, lesbians, bisexual, and transgender people and the community as a whole, and to work together to achieve common goals. The weekend of February 28, the Pride South Florida organization will be organizing many fun events under the Pride Fort Lauderdale umbrella.
On Friday, February 28, the second annual Pride South Florida Comedy Show will take place at the historic Parker Playhouse, co-produced with the Broward Center for the Performing Arts called “Big & Tall” staring comedians Bruce Vilanch and Judy Gold. Then on Saturday, March 1, and Sunday, March 2, the longest-run Pride event in South Florida, Pride Fort Lauderdale, will take place at War Memorial/Holiday Park Auditorium. It will feature nonstop entertainment including the “Ladies from Lips,” Church of the Holy Spirit of Song, Shadina, The South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble, Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus, and their special entertainment, gold and platinum recording artists Tiffany, Judy Tenuta, Lisa Lisa and Sheena Easton. If you’d like to meet and greet some of the special guests, such as Judy Tenuta or the singer Shadina, there will be special events throughout the weekend, like one on Saturday at Rumors and the Sunday Tea Dance at Village Pub.
The Miss Pride South Florida Plus pageant is being held in the auditorium, with preliminaries occurring on Saturday and the final round being presented on Sunday. COX Radio’s South Florida stations (WFEZ 93.1 and and WFLC 97.3) will be broadcasting live from Pride on both days.
There will be many vendors present this year, including Wolf Cuff, Lambda Legal, Sunshine Cathedral, South Florida Tennis Club, Eco’s of Elements, Florida Gay Rodeo Association, Broward County Department of Health, Sankofa Khari Designs, Island City Stage, cgsfinejewelry, Provincetown Visitors Bureau, Latinos Salud, Tribal Son Inc. and more. There will be lots of great festival food items and this year Pride South Florida has made sure that there will be new and healthier food options available to the attendees with an indoor “War Memorial Sandwich and Salad Café” area.
