What’s Hot South Florida 06/13 – 06/18

I arrived in Orlando on Wednesday night and after checking into the hotel, (Doubletree) I went to the annual Miss Gay Days pageant which had 4 contestants.  In the end, the winner was Harmony Breeze. Afterwards, my co-workers and I did our annual (ok, it only started last year) dinner at Maggiano’s Italian restaurant and all I can say is; tons of delicious Italian food with the best Tiramisu ever! Thursday, it was setting up the Expo and then working it. Thursday night I went to the annual Taste of Gaydays which features small bites of some of the local Orlando restaurants, including desserts, combined with tastes of wines, champagnes and alcoholic beverages combined with some aerial entertainment. Later that night, I hung out by the pool and had a wonderful time dancing with new and old friends.

Friday is all about Typhoon Lagoon for me and once again I had a wonderful time. The water rides, the co-workers, the food, the drinks, the socializing, and, of course, the hot men in very little clothes make this event a “can’t miss” every year for me! On Saturday, Hotspots had a luncheon in our suite for our customers which turned out fantastic.  Later that afternoon I did a bit of shopping and then relaxed at the hotel before getting ready for the 2nd annual WE party at Epcot, which was once again fabulosity! Our Editor, Mike, went over to Parliament House for LeAnn Rimes and said she was amazing and it was packed!

On Sunday, after finally sleeping late, I had the buffet breakfast at the hotel (ok, ok, I had this everyday) and then later that afternoon helped break down the expo and then hung around the hotel until 8 pm when I ran back to my room to watch the Tony’s (yes, I am that gay). After the Tony’s we went down to the final party for our last hoorah, which was moved from the pool to inside due to bad weather and possible lightning. Once again, I have to say, that Gaydays was amazing and I can’t wait for next year!

Masterworks Broadway exclusive premiere’s the Original Broadway Cast Recording of If/Then: A New Musical.

Idina Menzel returned to Broadway for the first time since winning the Tony Award for Wicked in If/Then, an original Broadway musical which reunites Tom Kitt (music), Brian Yorkey (book and lyrics), and Michael Greif (director), the creative team behind the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical, Next to Normal. If/Then is being produced by David Stone, who produced both Wicked and Next to Normal.

If/Then is an original new musical that follows Elizabeth as she rebuilds her life in New York, a city of infinite possibilities.  By the Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning creators of Next to Normal, this contemporary musical is set where choice and chance collide.  In one moment, Elizabeth will lead parallel lives.  This is the story of both.

The company of If/Then features Idina Menzel (Tony Award-winner for Wicked, original cast of Rent, Disney’s Frozen), LaChanze (Tony Award-winner for The Color Purple), Anthony Rapp (originalcast of Rent), James Snyder (Cry-Baby), Jerry Dixon (tick, tick…Boom!, Once On This Island), Jenn Colella (Chaplin, High Fidelity), Jason Tam (A Chorus Line, Lysistrata Jones), Tamika Lawrence (Matilda), and Jackie Burns (Wicked).

The production also features Joe Cassidy, Miguel Cervantes, Curtis Holbrook, Stephanie Klemons, Tyler McGee, Ryann Redmond, Joe Aaron Reid, Ann Sanders, Marc delaCruz, Charles Hagerty, Janet Krupin and Pearl Sun.
