GOING OUT OF BUSINESS

For the past 26 years MC Film has proudly served the Tampa Bay LGBT community. The building that we rent for our store is in the process of being sold and turning into a bar complex. At this time there are no other locations available in Ybor City to move to. We came to the sad decision to liquidate everything in the store. Almost everything is now 20% off. On a personal note, we actually are good friends with our landlords and are happy for them. We will remain good friends with them for many more years to come.

You Just Can’t Make This Stuff Up!

There was a very nice young male dancer. One day he said to me, “Hey, Tea Cup, I gotta show you a photo.” Of course I asked if it was a nude photo of himself. He said, “Dude, it’s much better.” Then showed me a photo of money carefully spread out on his bed. With excitement in his voice, he actually said, “That’s $128. I bet you have never seen that much cash at one time. I made it dancing.” His friend said, “Of course Tea Cup has seen that much cash before…Haven’t you, Tea Cup?” I just smiled and said, “WOW, that’s a lot of money.”

Tampa Pride 2015 Emeritus

After a long thought process and much consideration with regard to who would best represent Tampa Pride as an emeritus, we could not think of a more deserving person than Esme Russell. She was born and raised in Tampa, Florida, of Cuban descent. Her roots literally paved the way for Tampa’s growth in many ways. Tampa Pride is so pleased to make this announcement. A formal crowning and recognition ceremony will soon follow after a determined location and date is set.

Grand Opening for Faceplant Dreams

There is a new direction happening for Ybor City. New microcompanies are popping up. New craft beer breweries, hair salons, a Community Technical Center for Small Business Development, architectural designers, a furniture design company headquarters and a new clothing/linen manufacturer.

The new clothing and linen manufacturer is located right on the edge of Ybor City on 7th Avenue and 24th Street. The owner Brigitte Farrell had a grand opening celebration, showing off the new modern aluminum/glass building. While we were there, Tampa’s “Flavors TV” cable show were interviewing the new entrepreneurs.

The new company now has representative coverage all across the country and they’re in 1500 retail stores, selling imaginative linens with special messaging for a more positive world! A lot more new, innovative, environmentally-safe products are around the corner. It held a special meaning to me to interview the couple because my niece, Meagan, has a special degree in cloth making. She came to attend the grand opening with her new husband, Chris, who both reside in Savannah, Georgia.

So right here in Ybor City, there’s an international clothing and linen mogul. Diversity comes in many meanings and languages!
