April 30-May 3

The Slow Burn Theatre Company, in conjunction with the City of Aventura, presents one of the most beloved musicals in Broadway history, Rent. The Tony Award-winning musical will take the stage at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center (3385 NE 188th St., Aventura) at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 30. There will be additional showings on Friday and Saturday, May 1 and 2, also at 8 p.m. The musical will wrap up its run in Aventura with a matinee on Sunday, May 3 at 2 p.m.

Rent is one of the most innovative musicals that modern theatre has ever seen, and now, 20 years later, the story continues to entrance and captivate viewers all over the world. Loosely based on Puccini’s La Bohème, Rent follows a year in the lives of a close-knit group of friends who live in New York City’s East Village, struggling to live life day to day while beset with issues such as poverty and HIV/AIDS. Songs such as “Seasons of Love,” “La Vie Bohème,” “Tango Maureen,” “Take Me or Leave Me,” and “I’ll Cover You” became standards in their own right.

The original production was first performed in 1994 and made its Broadway debut in 1996. An instant success, Rent was performed in New York City for twelve years straight. It won many awards, such as Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score, as well as a Pulitzer Prize Award for Drama. The musical was turned into a 2005 motion picture, featuring many of the actors from the Broadway production.

Tickets are available for purchase online and at the box office starting 90 minutes prior to each of the performances. Prices start at $40 per person. For advance purchases, visit aventuracenter.org or call (877) 311-7469. For group ticket sales, call (954) 660-6307.
