The 24th annual Island City Canoe Race will be held on Saturday, May 16 starting at 10 a.m. Hundreds of boating enthusiasts will compete in the race, which will take off from Colohatchee Boat Ramp (1975 NE 15th Ave.). Participants will then row for seven miles, making four stops along the way: at NE 26th Street, at NE 12th Terrace, at Donn Eisele Park on NW 29th Street, and at Snook Creek Boat Ramp on Powerline Road, before ending at the Richardson Historic Park and Nature Preserve (1937 Wilton Dr.). This route will take racers around the entire perimeter of the city of Wilton Manors.

Afterwards, canoe race participants, well-wishers and other attendees will be invited to a party at Richardson Park which will begin at the end of the race, shortly after noon. This is a special event for the city as it doubles as the official celebration honoring the 68th anniversary of Wilton Manors first incorporating as a city in Broward County. There will be a barbecue, cake, a selection of drinks, live music, and the moment every participant has been waiting for: the presentation of the canoe race trophies to the winners and runners-up.

Teams competing for bragging rights and the canoe race trophies will be divided into three divisions: men (with each canoe team consisting of 10 men each), women (each team consisting of 10 women each) and co-ed (accepting up to 10 people per group, with a minimum of three men and three women needed to participate). Canoes, life jackets, and paddles are provided by the city so no extra gear is needed to take part.
