The Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus, under the artistic direction of Dr. Gary Keating, will finish their twenty-ninth season with a special finale performance called “Music of the Night.” This spectacular show will take place at the Nova Southeastern University Art Museum (1 E. Las Olas Blvd.) on Saturday, May 30 at 8 p.m.
Each chorus production revolves around a theme, and the theme for this concert is “the night.” All song selections will play off the word or theme “night” in some manner. Logically one of their selections must be “Music of the Night,” from the musical Phantom of the Opera; they even hinted at it when we here at Hotspots found out the details. From there, the possibilities are endless…any songs with “night” in the title are fair game, and even songs sung by singers with names like “Knight.” Is the beloved gay chorus from Florida going to bring down the house with a rendition of Midnight Train to Georgia? The only way to find out is to see them yourself.
The chorus promises a great time to everyone who will be coming to support them as they perform this year’s final concert. Without giving too much away, I hear there’s going to be dancing, elaborate costumes, and even some special guest stars!
Tickets are available for purchase now and cost $25 for general admission seating and $40 for premium seating (defined as rows 4-8). The check-in table and a cash bar will open at 7 p.m. in anticipation of crowds arriving for the 8 p.m. performance. The Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus is the oldest gay-oriented chorus in the state of Florida, having performed multiple concerts per season every year since 1986.
