Shania Twain’s Rock This Country Tour Comes to Miami

Shania Twain is one of the biggest names in country and pop music, having sold 75 million albums worldwide. She is still in-demand even after taking a 13-year break from recording and from touring. A two-year residency at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas invigorated her and encouraged her to return for what may very well be her final nationwide tour. This tour, called Rock This Country, will be making its way to South Florida very soon. Shania will be performing on Thursday, July 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami. Gavin DeGraw will open for Shania at her Miami concert.

ABOUT SHANIA TWAIN

Shania Twain was raised in Timmins, Ontario, and started singing her own songs in bars and nightclubs at the age of 8 to help pay the bills in her large family. She performed for the first time on television at the age of 13. As she was branching out on her own as a young adult involved in the Toronto music scene, her mother and stepfather were killed in a car accident. She moved back to her hometown to take care of her younger siblings and again sang to support a big family. Nashville noticed her talents in 1992, just after the last of her siblings left home and she could focus on her songwriting again. They signed her to a record deal and she released her first album in 1993.

It was her next two albums that shot her to worldwide fame. The 1995 album The Woman in Me earned Shania her first #1 country hit, “Any Man of Mine,” and the 1997 album Come On Over was her ticket to crossover success, with such chart-toppers as “You’re Still the One,” “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!”, “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” and “From This Moment On.” Come On Over sold over 40 million copies, and helped cement Shania as the top-selling female artist in country music history. Despite staying in the Billboard 200 album chart for nearly two straight years, it never did peak at #1, settling for #2 instead.

Her fourth album, Up!, was also the last album full of original tracks that has released to date. It hit stores at the end of 2002 and produced singles such as “I’m Gonna Getcha Good!” and “Up!”, both country hits. “Forever and For Always” became a Top 20 pop hit early the next year. Her greatest hits collection, released in 2004, went four times platinum.

From 2012 to 2014 she was in residency at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, performing a nightly show called Shania: Still the One. She put her career on hiatus for many years after a messy divorce and problems with her vocal cords. Once those issues were resolved, she vowed to produce her own show, which was eventually fully realized as the Caesar’s Palace production. This also inspired her to go on tour nationwide one more time.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THIS CONCERT

This concert is billed as her farewell tour, but we’ve followed other divas enough to know that “final” and “last” can mean different things at different times. Recently, she told Rolling Stone that “[she has] so many other things to do musically,” and she doesn’t want to close the door on touring or performing completely.

Expect to hear all of your favorites. “Rock This Country!”, which you may remember from her album Come On Over, is the namesake of the tour and will be performed first, along with a seven-man band behind her. She goes through her own personal favorites, such as “Today is Your Day,” visits her country roots with “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?”, and of course the big hits we all remember, like “Come On Over” and the show-stopping finale of “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!”
