Monet Xchange Talks ‘Drag Race’ Season 10

Episode 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 10 started out with a Mini Challenge called “Super Macho Character,” where the queens had to pose (as men), modeling for an advertisement for a manly body spray called “Trade.”

In the end Eureka won and was awarded a $2,000 gift card for MuLondon skin care as well as the opportunity to pair up the girls with their Makeover Men, social media stars — some gay, some straight — they would have to transform into sister queens for the Maxi Challenge.

Queens & Wannabe Queens

Monet             Tyler Oakley

Miz Cracker  Chester See

Aquaria          Kingsley

Cameron        Anthony Padilla

Asia                 Raymond Braun

Eureka           Frankie Grande

Once the Makeover Men were in drag, each pair had to star in their own DIY video of one of Ru’s songs. In the end, Miz Cracker (who was long overdue) won her first challenge and snagged a $2,000 gift card from Jane Doe Latex. Her protégé Chester took home a $2,000 gift card for Klein, Epstein & Parker menswear. The bottom two were Cameron and Monet, with Monet sashaying away.

But before we get to my chat with Monet, there are two urgent matters I must address. First, a very special shout-out goes to Michelle Visage, who is always on point but looked incredibly beautiful in this episode! And second, but perhaps more important, Drag Race fans, PLEASE NOTE: There is no show next week. But expect a new episode Thursday, June 7.

And, now… Monet!

WATCH:

At what age did drag become an interest?

Drag became an interest at 19 or 20, when Peppermint came to my college and hosted a drag ball. I immediately fell in love with it.

How did you pick your name?

I was eating at PDQ, and there was a currency exchange booth across the street. I saw the words Money Exchange, and that’s how I decided on my name.

How many times did you apply to be on RuPaul’s Drag Race?

I applied every time since Season 6, so four times.

How did it feel when you found out you had been chosen?

When I found out I was cast, I was so excited because I knew how this platform would change my life.

Is there additional pressure now that RuPaul’s Drag Race has been on for nine seasons plus three seasons of All Stars?

Absolutely. Everything you bring is held to a much higher standard!

Tell me about your Drag Race experience.

I think it was great. I was authentic to my brand, and I think my time on the show was very impactful. I believe the viewing public got to know and love me.

What’s your marital status?

I am very single.

What are you looking for in a man?

I’m looking for someone who is employed and tall. I love tall guys!

Who do you want to win and why?

I’m rooting for Miz Cracker since she’s been my friend for a long time. I’m a big believer in her drag, and she is one of the funniest people I know. In addition, I truly think she would be a great winner.

What’s ahead for Monet?

I have my podcast with Bob the Drag Queen, which we are working on getting it out to a larger audience. Last night, my music video for “Soak it Up” dropped, and it’s doing very well. I will have an EP coming out later this year, which will be very eclectic. I am also working on a YouTube channel that I think everyone will love!
