Scarlet Envy Talks ‘Drag Race’ Season 11, New Cabaret Show

In week six of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 11, the mini challenge was for the girls to get into 15 minute quick drag and workout to the latest Hollywood craze “Galasthenics.” The winners were A’keria and Plastique, who each one a $1500 G/C to MuLondon Organic Skin Care. Each winner also served as the captain for the Maxi Challenge.

The Maxi Challenge was to perform in a competitive International “Drag-lympics” in front of a live audience. A’keria’s team (Brooke, Silky, Yvie and Shuga) was called “Tuckpanistan” and Plastique’s team (Ra’jah, Vangie, Nina and Scarlet) were called “Glamazonia.” They each had to incorporate fanography, vogue-ing, and shablam into their routines. They also had EMMY award winning choreographer Travis Wall to help out. The runway looks were “All That Glitters.”

In the end, A’keria’s team won, and the bottom two were Scarlet and Ra’jah with Scarlet sashaying away. This is the first time, this season, I disagree with RuPaul. It was a pleasure to sit down with Scarlet for this Hotspots exclusive interview:

At what age did drag become an interest and how did you pick your name?

When I was a teenager. My mom was an event planner growing up and she hired a drag queen once and I met her, and we hit it off and it piqued my interest. Then I started to go to Rocky Horror Picture Show; I started officially doing drag in 2013 in New York City.

My drag name comes from strong female empowerment: Scarlett O’Hara and living a life that should be envied.

How many times did you apply to be on RuPaul’s Drag Race? How did it feel when you found out you got chosen?

I applied three times and it was a life changing phone call to get. It was simultaneously the best thing to happen and the most stressful thing to happen to me.

Tell us about your RuPaul’s Drag Race experience?

I had such a good time, it was so much fun. I did, however, feel a little bit discounted by most of the girls. I was able to show my acting chops, and I did have a lot of fun. It’s the ride of a lifetime. I waited in line for a long time, so I was ready for the ride.

Is there something you wish you did different and/or is there a certain look you wish we could have all seen?

Absolutely! My finale runway look was going to be sickening. I will be posting what could have been looks on my Instagram, however, there is nothing I would have done differently.

What’s your marital status?

I am very single. In a man I generally like creative people; guys who follow their passion.

Have you taken dance lessons or will you?

I wouldn’t say no to lessons. Does anyone have a coupon?

Who do you want to win?

We are going to have to see how this season plays out. We learn new things about the girls every week. I shared a challenge win with Yvie, and I love her. I also love Shuga (my NYC sista) and Brooke is great also. Any of those would be a great choice for Ru.

What’s ahead for Scarlet?

Well I have a cabaret one-woman show that I will be touring around the country, and hopefully out of the country as well. It’s called “Reflections and Other Shiny Things,” and it kicks off in NYC in May.

I am also very excited about Drag Con that is coming up soon. It will be my first Drag Con as a Ru Paul girl.

In addition, I love meeting the fans and getting to know them!
