The Miami International Piano Festival Presents Olivier Cavé

The Miami International Piano Festival will be hosting the grand finale of its 2019 Discovery Series on April 14 at the Colony Theatre in Miami Beach.

The program opens with the music of acclaimed Italian-Swiss pianist, Olivier Cavé, a pupil of Nelson Goerner, Maria Tipo and Aldo Ciccolini. Cavé gave his first concert in 1991, accompanied by Camerata Lysy under the baton of Yehudi Menuhin, at the Pierre Gianadda Foundation. He has also been a regular performer for the past 30 years.

Beyond virtuosity, the delicate touch of Cavé illuminates the poetry of music without affectation.

In 2008, he released his first album, which was dedicated to sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti. His second album, released in 2010, was awarded five Diapasons [golden tuning fork] by Diapason magazine, was given four stars by French classical music magazine, Classica, and received the highest distinction from Japanese magazine, Geijutsu Records. In 2015, his fourth album, Chiaro e scuro, was dedicated to Joseph Haydn and Domenico Scarlatti and was hailed by the critics and the public. Cavé has performed throughout the world, including at the Teatro Olimpico in Rome, the Tonhalle in Zurich and the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C.

Cavé will perform Haydn’s Sonata in b minor, Hob; Scarlatti 3 Sonatas; Mozart’s Sonata No. 11 in A Major, K 331 and Alla Tucca; and Beethoven’s Sonata No. 27 op. 81a E flat Major (Les Adieux).

The evening program wraps with The Magic of Opera Arias & Piano Masterpieces, a program featuring classical piano and opera duets. The Magic of Opera Arias & Piano Masterpieces provides a dialogue between pianists and opera singers of great romantic masterpieces and leads the audience on a journey of these two great art forms.

Opera singers for the evening include Eglise Gutierrez, soprano; Armando Naranjo, baritone; Sandra Lopez, soprano; and Mabel Ledo, Mezzo, soprano. Guest pianists include Francesco Libetta (Italy) and Amir Katz (Israel).

Cavé’s concert begins at 3 pm. The Magic of Opera Arias & Piano Masterpieces follows at 7:45 pm. The Colony Theatre is located at 1040 Lincoln Road in Miami Beach.
