During the Quarantine I changed the way What’s Hot looked to talk more about things happening virtually, and on TV, as there weren’t any events we could go do as everything was closed. As we start to get back to the new normal the column will slowly metamorphosis back to its original format.
Last Sunday, May 31 there were 2 events happening in town. The first was a car wash at Johnsons that featured some of their hot strippers washing cars for a $20 donation. All the money raised went to the strippers to help them in this time when they are not working. Afterwards, we headed to Georgie’s Alibi/Monkey bar who were giving away FREE Hot dogs, chips and soft drinks as a prelude to their opening the next day, Monday, June 1. Their kitchen is now open 11am to 11pm (Sun –Wed) and to 1am on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (curfew permitting).

Out at the Fair Summer Tour 2020 has been adjusted drastically by the COVID-19 pandemic. The OATF festival continues to evolve and find new ways to connect with our community. National Donut Day
The Salvation Army of Broward County has partnered with Dunkin’ to honor local first responders on National Donut Day, Friday, June 5. Dunkin’ will supply hundreds of donuts to The Salvation Army to distribute to Broward men and women presently saving lives on the frontlines of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. “National Donut Day is a reminder that small acts can make a big difference in our community, as evidenced by these past two months which have emphasized our heroes and our hardships,” said Major Stephen Long, area commander for The Salvation Army of Broward County. “We are most grateful to Dunkin’ for their generous donation and support of our mission to do the most good.”Established by The Salvation Army in 1938, National Donut Day is held annually on the first Friday in June to honor the Donut Lassies, who served the tasty treats to soldiers in France on the front lines of World War I. The donut now serves as a symbol of the services and comfort The Salvation Army provides to more than 23 million people each year. The Florida International University’s (FIU) International Hurricane Research Center (IHRC) and Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) invite families across the nation, especially those in hurricane-prone regions, to explore this FREE virtual series, Eye of the Storm. In this episode, you’ll learn about hurricane science and fly into the eye of the storm with hurricane hunters. Step aboard a uniquely-outfitted plane, hear directly from a hurricane hunter about her career and see all of the latest gadgets, drones and tracking devices from inside the storm.
