Mary Trump Explains Why LGBTQ+ Is Not Crazy On Trump

Mary Trump, the out lesbian niece of Donald Trump and a clinical psychologist, made a cutting observation about Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) and, by extension, all Republicans and LGBTQ+ community. Mary recently shared a clip of Reynolds talking to Fox News’s Neil Cavuto. The clip shows Reynolds claiming she would support Donald Trump if he wins the primary despite Donald Trump insulting Reynolds just prior to the caucuses for supporting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. And Reynolds explains this approach saying “Well because, you know, we’ve got to win.” Mary Trump summarized this behavior aptly saying, “Exhibit A that Republicans have no principles.” With this powerful seven-word statement, Mary Trump has revealed the complex dynamics and ideological shifts that currently shape the GOP. Against this backdrop, we need to understand the sigh of relief the LGBTQ+ community felt when Iowa results came out. Is the LGBTQ+ community supporting Donald Trump now? Or is it the case of choosing the lesser of two evils? If yes, how far will this approach work? On the same note, after the Iowa victory of Trump, the president and CEO of GLAAD, Sarah Kate Ellis, had to release a statement. The purpose was to remind the LGBTQ+ community of the country that Trump is equally dangerous for democracy and equal rights movements as DeSantis. The statement said, “The results in Iowa show urgency and clarity for voters who believe in liberty and justice for all. No one should forget that Donald Trump led more than 200 attacks in policy and rhetoric against LGBTQ Americans, with enablers in Congress and the courts stripping fundamental freedoms from every American.”
