Clue, the hilarious murder mystery comedy inspired by the Hasbro board game and adapted from the cult favorite film, comes to the Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale Tuesday, June 11 through Sunday, June 16, is the final show of the 2023/2024 Bank of America Broadway in Fort Lauderdale Season with presenting sponsor Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
Led by Broadway Director Casey Hushion (Associate Director of Mean Girls and The Prom) murder and blackmail are on the menu when six mysterious guests assemble at Boddy Manor for a night they’ll never forget! Was it Mrs. Peacock in the study with the knife? Or was it Colonel Mustard in the library with the wrench? Based on the cult 1985 Paramount movie and inspired by the classic Hasbro board game, Clue is the ultimate whodunit that will leave you dying of laughter and keep you guessing until the final twist.
Clue is based on the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn. Written by Sandy Rustin with additional material by Hunter Foster and Eric Price. It features original music by Michael Holland.
The production also features scenic design by Lee Savage, costume design by Jen Caprio, lighting design by Ryan J. O’Gara and sound design by Jeff Human.
Th cast consists of Mariah Burks (the Cook), John Treacy Egan (Colonel Mustard), Michelle Elaine (Miss Scarlet), Joanna Glushak (Mrs. Peacock), Tari Kelly (Mrs. White), Mark Price (Wadsworth), John Shartzer (Mr. Green), Jonathan Spivey (Professor Plum), Alex Syiek (Mr. Boddy), Teddy Trice (The Cop), and Elisabeth Yancey (Yvette).
At what age did you begin performing and how did it happen?
I started performing when I was 7 years old as my mom took me on a surprise audition to Annie the Musical and I got up there and I got bit by the fever. I just loved it!
What was your first professional gig and how much did you get paid?
It was “Dancing at Lughnasa” which was an Irish play at the Wellesley Repertoire Theater just outside of Boston.
When did you know performing would be your career?
There are so many different paths to it, so it was hard for me to find the correct one. I went to the London Academy for Music and Dramatic Arts for a semester abroad, and I learned a lot there. I got positive feedback and it became a real possibility for me to pursue acting professionally and from there I looked into Grad Schools.
Other than this show, what has been your favorite role so far?
Dawn in “Lobby Hero” this past fall at Palm Beach Drama Works. It was an incredible role.
What’s your fantasy role (a role you haven’t played but would die to play)?
You know what I am going to say…. I am craving a period piece. Lizzie Bennett in Pride and Prejudice.
Is it intimidating for you and the cast since the movie has such a cult following?
Totally, it is intimidating, but it’s also such a joy. All the actors are fans of the work, and we are delighted to pay homage to it. However, we did find a unique expression of the story and the characters.
Is it hard being on the road all the time?
Yes, it is hard, but it’s also such a gift that we get to see the country in a way that so few people get to see it. The other day I got to see the oldest bowling alley in the country and on another night, I went to a burlesque show. There is a lot of adventure in my travels!
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Human, empathetic, and consistently delighted by the world (ok, that a lot of words).
What do you do for fun?
When I am not on the road, I play Dungeons and Dragons. The cast has gotten very into Karaoke, and I love trying good food from around the country.
What should our readers expect from this touring company of, “Clue”?
The show is genuinely one of the funniest things I have been part of. It’s hilarious and nostalgic, and it’s just the classic who done it. If you have ever played the board game or have seen the movie you are going to love it. All these actors are some of the most talented people I have ever worked with. In addition, the set and the score are amazing. It’s 90 minutes and with no intermission, you are in and out and have a wonderful time.
