Join our friends at OUTSFL at the Stonewall Museum and Archives, 1300 E. Sunrise, Fort Lauderdale, as they debut their monthly film series. They begin with a film perfect for the season, “Death Becomes Her,” hosted by OUTSFL Arts & Culture Editor Rick Karlin. The screening starts at 6:30. After their first 3 shows were packed, Tropics Grille Bar and Restaurant continues their Friday Series, An Intimate Evening With… “GUYS ON THE DRIVE: The Ultimate Male Burlesque Show, Broadway Style,” with this week being a MOTOWN theme. Guys on the Drive is hosted by Oscar Novva and features cast member Antonio Edwards and special guests. The special guest this week is Ralph Meitzler. The Wilton Manors Business Association presents their annual Business and Leadership Awards at Hunters Nightclub from 5:30-7pm. This year they honor: Hamill Tire, Peter Hamill with Business of the Year, Carol Moran (Apt 9f) with Business Person of the year, Cliff Mulhaney and John Zieba (Rosies) Business Persons of the Year, and Glen Weinzimer (Bona’s) with the inaugural norm Kent Lifetime Achievement Award. Rattling Good Yarns Press will hold a book release party beginning at 6 pm (doors open at 5:30) at Hunters Nightclub, (2232 Wilton Dr), to celebrate the publication of Last Call South Florida: A History of 1,001 LGBTQ-Friendly Taverns, Hang-Outs & Haunts. The near encyclopedic work Last Call South Florida sweeps aside the glitter, glamor, and glitz of the Sunshine State’s LGBTQ nightlife scene to look at the very real people who ended up on both sides of the bar. From the investors and entrepreneurs to the entertainers, bartenders, go-go boys, drag performers, and “bar celebrities,” to the customers who came to escape their everyday lives, be entertained, be among others like themselves, and along the way, became a community.  A limited number of copies will be available for purchase ($40 hardcover) and the authors will be available to sign the copies purchased that evening. The first 100 people will be given a coupon for a free cocktail.

The Greater Fort Lauderdale LGBT Chamber of Commerce presents their October Mixer at Myth Gastrobar from 5:30 to 7pm. The event will feature a complimentary Welcome Drink, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, and a great networking opportunity. Off-Broadway’s longest-running and most beloved musical, The Fantasticks, will kick off Island City Stage’s 13th South Florida Season beginning today. Audiences are in for a treat with twists during Island City Stage’s South Florida premiere of this reimagined version by original librettist and lyricist Tom Jones featuring two young compelling gay leads. The show will run through November 17. The Fantasticks is an allegorical story loosely based on Edmund Rostand’s 1894 play The Romancers (Les Romanesques), concerning two neighboring parents who trick their children into falling in love by pretending to feud.
