Liza Minnelli—an icon of stage, screen, and song—is being honored by RuPaul’s Drag Race with the Giving Us Lifetime Achievement Award during the season 17 finale. The show’s tribute celebrates Minnelli’s illustrious career, spanning Broadway, Hollywood, and beyond. Minnelli, the daughter of the legendary Judy Garland, cemented her legacy with an Oscar-winning performance as Sally Bowles in Cabaret and a nomination for The Sterile Cuckoo. Her concert film Liza with a Z earned her an Emmy. She also holds two Tonys for Flora the Red Menace and The Act and received the Grammy Living Legend Award in 1990.
Past recipients of the Giving Us Lifetime Achievement Award include fashion icon Bob Mackie in season 15 and Cassandra Peterson, the iconic Elvira, in season 16. It’s fitting for RuPaul’s Drag Race, fresh from winning the Outstanding Reality Program Competition at the 36th GLAAD Media Awards, to honor a performer who’s always shown us that “life is a cabaret,” where all gender is drag, and Liza Minnelli will forever be a legend.
