A new national survey highlights Florida’s strongest LGBTQ communities, with Wilton Manors, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Hollywood and others earning perfect scores in the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index. Orlando also scored 100% for the 12th straight year, thanks to nondiscrimination laws, queer-focused services and strong city leadership. The HRC says cities are “testing the limits of restrictive state laws… pushing back against various checks on municipal power or discriminatory state laws.” President Kelley Robinson warned, “state legislatures… are waging a calculated campaign to erase LGBTQ+ people,” but praised cities choosing equality.
