Gladys Books & Wine has opened in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, offering a rare brick-and-mortar space created for and by Black lesbians. Founder Tiffany Dockery, 37, launched the bookstore and wine bar after being laid off from Google. She said, “I felt like God was saying, ‘All right, at what point are you going to actually do something that you believe in?’” Dockery cashed out her 401(k) to step out on faith, building a space that celebrates Black women’s literature and community.
