Pornhub Restricts Access in Australia Ahead of Age Verification Rules, Citing Privacy and Safety Concerns

Access to Pornhub, the world’s largest adult-video content site, is currently restricted for users in Australia. The change comes as the country prepares to introduce stricter age-verification regulations aimed at reducing children’s exposure to harmful online material. Pornhub’s parent company, Aylo—which also operates RedTube, YouPorn, and Tube8—has begun limiting access for Australian users. While the site remains partially available, only non-explicit, safe-for-work content is currently visible.

The restriction arrives ahead of new rules from the Australian eSafety Commissioner. According to reports, Aylo confirmed its video-sharing platforms will restrict “access to adult material before the deadline on March 9th”. Under Phase Two of the regulation, websites hosting pornographic or age-restricted material must implement systems verifying users’ ages, including facial age estimation, digital identity wallets, or photo identification.

Non-compliant companies could face fines of up to 49.5 million dollars per breach. Similar restrictions have already appeared in the United Kingdom and across multiple U.S. states, including Florida, where VPN usage surged after access to Pornhub was blocked.
