Google Doodle Honors Disco’s LGBTQ Roots During Pride Month

Google kicked off Pride Month Monday with a special Google Doodle celebrating disco music and the LGBTQ pioneers who helped shape the genre. The colorful Doodle features a retro-inspired logo and a sparkling rotating disco ball designed by artist Ohni Lisle. Google website says the artwork celebrates “the art of disco” and the LGBTQ artists who helped found the music movement. Google described disco as the genre that transformed the dance floor into a space for self-expression, individuality, and community. Disco emerged in Black, brown, and LGBTQ communities across the United States during the 1960s and 1970s. The genre later became a global cultural phenomenon, with stars including Donna Summer, the Bee Gees, Gloria Gaynor, and KC and the Sunshine Band helping define the era’s sound and spirit.
