At what age did you realize that you liked to sing and where did you first sing in public? Tell me about the experience.
I started realizing that I wanted to sing at the age of 16. The first place I sang in public was at the Stud for George Kessinger as he was very supportive of me. It was an awesome experience.
What was the first song you recorded?
I recorded many songs but the first song that I released as an artist was “Delicious,” which was for certified Strictly Rhythym.
You have traveled all over the world. What is your favorite city and why?
Paris, because I love the clubs there (especially La Queen) and I love the reception from the Parisians.
What are some of the big names you worked with and who was your favorite(s)?
I have worked with Mone, Ultra Nate, Viola Wills, Melanie Thornton and many more but my favorite to work with is definitely Mone.
You produce, sing, write, DJ and direct. Which is your favorite and why?
Probably a cross between producer and artist.
You recently wrote and produced “Flyin’ with Angels” as a tribute song to Anna Nicole Smith. What motivated you to produce this?
I wrote a song for Anna called “Viva La Diva” which she was going to record right before she passed away. Her bodyguard, Big Mo, asked if I would produce a tribute song and I did and I got Big Mo and Mone to record it.
What’s ahead for Gio?
I have a single out on Strictly Defected called “Love Don’t Pay the Rent,” which is charting really well in Europe, and I have a follow up called “I Promise” with ATFC. I am also a principal actor in a movie that is being shot in Florida called “Dealer School Dropout” which looks like it will be on the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival. I also have a release with Tori Holden, called “She’s the Queen.” I have my own EP coming out on Techtonics called “Gio Locked and Loaded” and I am also coming out with a song with Mone called “Fire” which is being remixed by DJ Silvio.
Gio will be performing at Atomic/Boom on Friday, June 18th and on Sunday, June 20th at the Stonewall Street Festival. For more info on Gio go to MySpace.com/giolockedandloaded.
