A Maryland community is outraged after Salisbury Mayor Randy Taylor ordered the city’s only rainbow crosswalks removed at dawn on November 11, calling for neutrality on government property. The Pride crosswalks, installed in 2018, had long signaled affirmation in the conservative region. 23-year-old Jonathan Franklin saw crosswalks as proof that queer people are part of the fabric of Salisbury. He said, “It really made the community feel safer.” The move sparked tense public clashes; during one meeting, Council member Michele Gregory told Taylor, “If you don’t want to be called a bigot, don’t do bigoted things.”
