Fox News’ reporting on transgender people is drawing renewed scrutiny after new research suggested the outlet’s article output is surpassing that of every other major news publication, including LGBTQ+ media. According to statistics compiled by researcher Jessica Kant, the Murdoch-owned network published more articles referencing the trans community in 2025 than any other news outlet. Kant noted that Fox News’ articles accounted for over half of all anti-trans coverage produced by six leading conservative US outlets. The report states that for nearly four consecutive years, Fox News published more stories referencing transgender people than there were days in the year — exceeding outlets including The Advocate, NBC News, The Guardian, and The Washington Post.

Kant’s ongoing study tracks anti-trans coverage across the US and UK. She said the project began after noticing what she described as an “astronomical” rise in trans-focused reporting. Kant said, “Every time I think I’ve scratched the surface of what I’ve come to call ‘the outrage factory’, I lose an entire weekend combining through stacks of awfulness that takes a whole bank of monitors to see.” Her analysis segmented articles using three keywords: “biological sex,” “gender identity,” and “transgender.”

The term “transgender” appeared most frequently across outlets. Kant’s figures show Fox News published nearly 1,000 anti-trans articles in 2025. By comparison, Queer news brand The Advocate produced just under 500, while The New York Times published just over 500. The findings align with previous reports by Media Matters for America, which said Fox News’ television programming spent more than four hours praising President Donald Trump’s anti-trans executive orders between January 20 and February 19.
