It was a pleasure to sit down with the sexy (see the pic) Alex Llorca for this exclusive Hotspots Interview:

At what age did performing become an interest?

I started dancing at 7, but I would say 14 is when it really became an interest. I am from Spain and until that age I didn’t even know performing could be an option.

When did you know performing would be your career?

At around 17 or 18 is when I said yeah, I want to do this. I didn’t know how it was going to happen, but I knew it was the path I was going to take.

If you weren’t performing, what would you be doing for a living?

I would be a Bio medical professional. That’s what my background is in, and during Covid I worked as a scientist for a year and a half.

Other than this one, what has been your favorite role so far?

Playing Bernardo in West Side Story, even though it was a short run, but I had so much fun and I would love to play him again.

What’s your fantasy role, a role you would die to play?

I would love to play Santiago in Moulin Rouge.

What’s something a lot of people don’t know about you?

That I have a degree in Bio Medical Science and I was a politician for 4 years.

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Family-oriented, resilient and empathetic

What are some of your interests/hobbies/favorite pastimes?

I love to travel and spend time with my friends and family, and I enjoy working out.

What does the future hold for you?

Hopefully to keep performing and to find jobs that allow me to keep traveling, but also allow me the time to see my family and friends.

What should our readers expect from this touring company of Buena Vista Social Club?

They will feel tremendous feelings of joy and it’s a really moving show no matter where you are from or what language you speak. It’s a soulful show, because it touches a lot of beautiful subjects like family, community and everything is surrounded by music. You can really feel the passion that all the cast members and musicians have. The whole soundtrack is in Spanish, but you don’t need to understand Spanish to understand the show…it just touches your heart.

Is there anything I didn’t ask you that you want to talk about?

Yes, I dedicate this show to my abuelo (grandfather). He passed away three years ago at the age of 100, and he was born in Havana, Cuba. We grew up listening to this music at home, so when I first saw the show on Broadway last year, I felt this strong and unique connection to him. I honestly felt like he was right there with me throughout the whole show. It was very special, and even now, there are moments in the show that still give me chills
