Alibi Turnabout

I think most of us have been to one of the 12 Turnabout nights that Georgie’s Alibi has become famous for. Who can resist the urge to see one of our favorite bartenders, waiters, or bar backs in drag? Two of the bartenders that have been with Alibi for many years, Scot Newell and Eric Brano, have decided that turnabout was in need of a face lift. Therefore this year in conjunction with Ultimat Vodka, the Alibi presents the first ever Miss Alibi Turnabout Pageant on Monday, June 15th at 8 pm sharp (this is not drag time). This event will showcase some of the most outrageous personas Wilton Manors has to offer.
Turnabout is always a benefit for a charity and this year, even though they are changing the format, the charity aspect remains in place. All the tips collected by the contestants (yes, at this pageant you can tip the contestants) and a portion of the tips the bartenders make will all go to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. AHF is allocating all the money to stay right here in South Florida and put towards the purchase of a mobile HIV testing unit. In addition, if anyone wants to donate to AHF they will be happy to take checks that night or anytime you can stop by Alibi.
The staff has really rallied to make this event a success. VJ Barry Browder has produced a montage of previous years to promote in house and on the web (view it at www.GeorgiesAlibi.com). Also, longtime bartender Greg Phelps has written an original song for the opening number.
The pageant, for which they are building a 24 foot runway, will have 12 contestants (at press time) and will consist of an introduction, Q&A and Talent portions. There will be a secret panel of judges that picks the most outrageous, original and fishiest categories… however, the first Miss Alibi Turnabout will be picked by audience applause.
The First Annual Miss Turnabout, which they expect to be a major social event, will start with a red carpet event hosted by Nicolette (from LIPS), “limousine” service provided by the Green Hopper and lots of paparazzi from 7 to 8 pm, followed by the opening production at 8 pm.
