Madison Hildebrand of Million Dollar Listing

Madison Hildebrand, star of Bravo TV’s “Million Dollar Listing,” is an internationally known estates director for Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Malibu, California. In the last 4 years he has sold over $100 Million in properties, authored a book, starred in a reality television show, speaks publicly and even finds time to do volunteer work. It was my pleasure to sit down and interview this ambitious young man.

How did you get into selling Real Estate?

I went to college at Pepperdine and fell in love with Malibu. So after graduating I had to find a job where I could make enough money to live comfortably in Malibu. That shaped my path into real estate.

How does it feel to be recognized as the top 2% of Coldwell Banker’s international family for 5 years in a row?

It feels real good, but I have a lot more to accomplish until I receive satisfaction.

How exciting was it to be named in Realtor Magazine’s 2008 30 under 30?

I was thrilled to be acknowledged for that as it was a milestone in my career. Realtor Magazine has over 1 million subscribers. They flew me to Chicago for a photo shoot and interview; it was a lot of fun.

How did you get cast on Bravo’s ‘Million Dollar Listing?’

The show actually approached me. I met with them when I was in the business for only about 3 months. That’s why in the first season I was dubbed the rookie.

Has the exposure brought you more and or a different type of clientele?

I have grown to a different phase in my career. I am putting my style and ethics out on TV and those who like it call me. I am very blessed that I attract the same kind of people.

How did the idea for your book, “Activate YOUR Passion, Create YOUR Career,” come about?

After the first season I was inundated with e-mails, letter, etc on how I did what I did. Frankly, I got tired of responding to the same questions so I wrote the book and made it available before the second season. The book spells out my exact methodology on how I got into such a competitive business. I held nothing back.

How exciting was it for you the first time you saw your book in print?

It was like having a baby as it was a 1 ½ year process. When I finally saw the book completed and bound, error free, it was a blissful moment.

I hear somehow you have time to volunteer and do community service. Where do you volunteer your time?

I have either contributed my time, energy or money to some of my favorite non-profits and community service endeavors, ie: Malibu Green Machine, Board Director for Malibu Association of Realtors, Operation Smile, Outfest, The Legacy Awards for the LGBT community, Miriam’s House w/ the Promises Foundation  just to name a few.  It’s part of my lifestyle. I feel I have to give back!

You serve as Vice President of the Malibu Green Machine. Tell me more about this organization and why it is near and dear to your heart?

It is real important to find something that is near and dear to your heart. Years ago I started running on the Pacific Highway and thought it was so ugly. When I noticed this new group being formed, the Malibu Green Machine, I went to the initial meeting and got nominated as the VP. I stuck with it for 4 years and in that time we achieved our goal to raise 1 million dollars to re-landscape the central median. This brought a different vision to downtown Malibu.

You are also known for your public speaking. How did that come about and is it one of your passions?

I love public speaking. I am not sure how it came about, but it’s a part of giving back. I feel its an opportunity to pass my knowledge on to other people.

How do you feel about the gay community?

The whole community is new to me as Malibu is a private community. It is close to LA, but yet far enough away and secluded. It has been a great experience for me getting to know and hanging out with the gay community.

What are you looking for in a partner?

I want someone I can have fun with; a best friend; can be inspired with; has their own self will and determination. I want it to be easy and a good fit and of course they have to make me laugh. The most important thing is there needs to be good chemistry immediately as I know within 5 seconds of meeting with someone if the chemistry is there or not.

Your sexuality is vague on the show. Do you want to comment on that?

Last season I explored where I was and what turned me on and what didn’t. This season I find what does make me happy and find a love interest. Stay tuned to see who that is as my journey progresses.

Check out Madison on the third season of Bravo’s “Million Dollar Listing” which returns Monday, October 12th at 11pm et/pt.
