At what age was the first time you did drag/female impersonation?

Just 3 years ago actually, when I turned 20.

Where do you get your inspiration to write your parodies/songs?

Well if it’s a song that’s a big hit I will sit around and try to think of a parody, but sometimes it just comes to me.  Like for “Bad Romance,” I thought, “Oh, right, Shit My Pants.”  Ok, I never said it was logical.  Then I spend my Friday night on the rhyme dictionary looking for words that rhyme with poop!  Sad.

You lived in Berlin for 4 years in the early 2000’s. How was that and how does it compare to the States?

My time in Berlin was amazing and it was the best decision I ever made.  I got to travel so many places, make friends in cities all over the world, fell in love, learned another language – an incredible experience.  It’s a very different way of life – people sincerely place friends and family above all us.  I’ve tried to bring that back with me.  I have to tell myself, “Yes, Queen, you have an hour to have lunch with your sisters!”

You have starred in many theatrical productions and movies. What was your favorite production and movie and why?

Doing the Theatre Couture Productions (of which I am artistic director) have been the happiest times of my life – my passion.  Our most recent show was “Carrie” and that was my favorite so far!  Who doesn’t want a bucket of “blood” dumped on them in a prom gown every night?

Your partnership with Joey Arias is legendary. How did this begin and what is your favorite story about your partnership?

A mutual friend brought Joey to see me perform and Joey invited me to perform with him and Raven at Bar d’O.  Since then Joey and I have become dear friends and have performed in toilets all over the world together [laughing].  Most of the stories I could tell are not fit for print!  But let’s just say we’ve had some gorgeous times.  We’re working on a new show now.  What I love about Joey is she’s so fun to be onstage with and just as fun off.  We go to the movies together, chat on the phone every morning – a genuine, nice, giving person.  Very special, that bitch!

Your YouTube video for the parody of “Bad Romance” is a viral sensation. How did you come about creating it?

I was working on the parody and performed it at my show at Barracuda and at the same time the Gaga video came out and I thought, “If I can do this right now, then it will work.”  So thank goddess for all my friends who helped (about 15 of them doing hair, sets, costumes, dancing, etc) and believe me, Blake Martin, the director, made a $1.99 video look so much better.  And of course, I have to give props to Perez Hilton who posted it and that’s when it went viral. No one is more surprised or happy than moi.

What’s ahead for Sherry Vine?

Well right now I’m performing all over the States thanks to the parody of the “Bad Romance” video.  Then in April Joey and I begin our new tour, Looking Back At The Future.  We’re already booked in Amsterdam, Berlin, Helsinki, Montreal, San Francisco, LA, Seattle and Vancouver.  I’m wishing, hoping and praying that “Carrie” comes back.  And saving up for my new hip, teeth and face lift!
