What’s HOT! South Florida August 19, 2010

Friday night was happening all over Fort Lauderdale. It started with “Broward Bares It,” a benefit for Broward House at Passion Nightclub at the Seminole Hardrock Hotel and Casino. This was a takeoff of the very successful and long running “Broadway Bares, Equity Fights AIDS” in New York City. Congrats to Nikki Adams, Terry DeCarlo and the entire staff of Broward House for organizing this successful event. The Bears took over Wilton Manors again with both Growl at Bill’s and Bear Nation at Manor packing them in. Congratulations to my friend and former Hotspots cover model, Jay, for winning the Sexy Bear Contest at Bill’s and the $500 prize. Saturday night started with the grand opening of Book Nook right on Wilton Drive. Later on Fort Lauderdale had 2 porn stars in town with Landon Mykels at Johnny’s and the sexy …

Later on Fort Lauderdale had 2 porn stars in town with Landon Mykels at Johnny’s and the sexy Alexsander Freitas at Boardwalk (Alexsander is short hairy and Latin (ish) – can you imagine me thinking that he is sexy?…LOL).

Afterwards I headed to Torpedo to see my buddies DJ Oliver and manager/bartender Kevin. I haven’t been to Torpedo in a while (getting old here) but it is still the king of late night! On Sunday, Palace hosted a Latin T-Dance as a special kick-off event to Inferno, the international GLBT event held during Labor Day weekend in the beautiful Dominican Republic. George Ferrero kept the party going with the hottest Latin beats and to add to the festivities, our sister publication, Latino Boys Magazine, was present and Thomas Barker from The Wire celebrated his 27th birthday!

Sunday late afternoon was also a benefit pool party at La Casa Del Mar for Lewis Nicholson, to send him to Mr. Continental in Chicago (Lewis was 1st runner up last year and we are all hoping he brings back the crown this year!). The benefit featured food, drinks and a live underwear auction on some really hot boys. Now that’s the way I think I should end every weekend!

Hotspots’ own Pompano Bill looks like a million dollars in his new 2011 Mustang that he purchased from Maroone Ford of Fort Lauderdale. Sidelines Sports Bar was recently honored by the City of Wilton Manors when the city proclaimed Tuesday, July 27, 2010 as “Sidelines Sports Bar Day” during its City Commission meeting. The proclamation was presented to owners Laurie Whittaker and Marty Kildea by the city’s mayor, Mayor Gary Resnick. Sidelines Sports Bar is the first gay business on the Drive to be given such a proclamation and as such was applauded for their significant role in the community for supporting many charities and fundraisers in Wilton Manors and South Florida.

Owners Laurie and Marty looked like proud parents during the reading of the proclamation and were thrilled when asked to speak. “Thanks to our dedicated team and loyal customers, it is because of them that we could achieve all that we did. Thank you for this incredible honor,” stated Laurie Whittaker. “After only four years, we’ve come to value having Sidelines as business neighbors and hope to continue our relationship for many years to come,” commented Mayor Resnick.
