Dr. Don Nadel brings years of experience to 21st Century Dental, which was formerly Dr. Norman Young’s office. He has been practicing dentistry over 20 years with the slogan “Put some muscle in your smile.” He has offices in New York, South Beach and Oakland Park and moved to this office just off Wilton Drive last February, which he says is the best office he has ever had.
“I have just added the most advanced state-of-the-art equipment and the office has the best access of any office I’ve worked at to this date,” he said.
Dr. Nadel received his Masters in Public Health from Columbia and his DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) from NYU. Before he went to dental school, he was a phlebotomist and worked in microbiology at Cedars Sinai Hospital in L.A. He went to Music and Art High School for art and views dentistry as a sort of artistry.
We spoke with the Dr. Nadel about his practice and what he has to offer patients.
Hotspots Magazine: What are some of the new innovations in dentistry?
Dr. Don Nadel: Zoom Whitening- it’s revolutionized whitening and gives the best results. The way it works is that you prep, sit down with a light facing you for three to four 15 minute sessions. Also, soft tissue laser for gum removal and crown lengthening. Invisalign- clear braces. They aren’t new, but they are very popular for people who are older and don’t want to wear visible braces. There’s also Digital Panorex- which in one shot gives an x-ray of the whole mouth. It’s very clear. Also, DEXIS Digital X-rays – there’s less radiation and they are much quicker. In addition, there’s new bulk fill composite white fillings- they cause less shrinkage inside the tooth, we do lumineers, veneers and cosmetic crowns.
Tell me about your staff.
Mariella, the hygenist and Jessica, an assistant, have been with me since 1997. We have dental assistants Tim, Jose E. and Jose C. who also assist in the practice.
Other than general, comprehensive and cosmetic dentistry, are there any other services you offer?
We do root canals on a regular basis- crown and bridge all the time. I’ve recently been certified for botox and dermafillers- so when you come in, you can get a complete cosmetic rehabilitation. That is Zoom Whitening, veneers, Invisalign, botox and dermafillers. In fact, all January I am offering a great special- an exam, panorex x-ray and Zoom Whitening for $199.
How do you handle those who have a fear of dental work?
We offer nitrus oxide in every room. That helps people who do have a lot of fear. It eases them and helps them relax. We also prescribe an anti-anxiety medication, if needed. Our congenial staff tends to all our patients’ needs.
Do you take insurance?
We accept most insurances. If someone is on a limited budget, we try to help them and we try to give a discount to the needy. We also take various forms of credit, including Care Credit. We have a large focus on the gay community and their needs, our business is gay owned and operated.
