There are so many products and procedures geared towards getting a whiter, brighter smile, that it can be confusing. Hotspots got in touch with several local dentists and asked them:  “What are the latest innovations in tooth whitening?” Here are the responses we received:

teeth-white-techniques-3“As part of MIAMI BLEACH, my whitening regimen, we have started offering an at home whitening gel that is 35% carbemide peroxide. This is much stronger than previous available formulations. Until now, 10, 15, 20, and 25% were available. This makes it possible to achieve whiter teeth at home. We are confident that, together, with our fluoride treatment, the patient will not suffer post-whitening sensitivity, which is common in laser whitening that is commonly done in dental offices. Laser whitening, or in-office whitening, uses anywhere from a 26-40% hydrogen peroxide to whiten the teeth. That is some strong stuff, compared to carbemide peroxide. Also, at home whitening allows the patient to do it as much or as little as they want. I don’t recall anyone ever overdosing on tooth whitening.”

“I have not tested all the whitening techniques, but from my experience with Zoom whitening and the other techniques I’ve used, I found this one to be the best.
I want my patients to be satisfied!”

teeth-white-techniques-5“The latest innovations of tooth whitening that I offer to my patients are:
1-
For take home whitening, I offer 35% whitening gel from Opalescence that contains potassium nitrate and 0.11% of fluoride to reduce sensitivity. Because of the higher percentage, patients only need to wear the trays for 30 mins to an 1 hour instead of overnight.
2- I offer in-office whitening called Zoom Advanced Power. This system
is used with a light that activates the gel to get faster results in
just three 15 minute sessions. With the new Zoom Advanced Power patients
experience more effective results, less chair time, faster results, and
less sensitivity.”

“The nicest innovation in tooth whitening is that we are looking at shorter more effective times for bleaching, while reducing the overall sensitivity of the product. It used to be that we would give our patients trays to sleep with at night (for up to 8 hours) after their initial one hour bleaching. This was to use as touch ups and maintenance. Now we distribute our patients’ trays for the length of your average sitcom (and sometimes less), while reducing that cringing sensitivity to cold that patients used to have concerns about.”
