Mariah Carey– born March 27, 1970
Mariah Carey is the best-selling female vocalist of all time, and her voice is recognized the world over. Born in North Port, New York, a town on Long Island, the singer grew up estranged from her mother’s family. Her mom is white, and her father, who died when Mariah was very young, was of afro-Venezuelan heritage.
Mariah had her big break in 1990 when she released herself titled first album. Her multi octave range and beautiful smile ensured her success. She has been cranking out the hits ever since. Carey is the embodiment of the word Diva, and her concert rider proves it. She, reportedly, once asked for a Rolls-Royce, a pink carpet, pink podium, confetti shaped as butterflies, and 80 security guards.
Jennifer Lopez– born July 24, 1969
Jennifer Lopez rose to international fame because of her role as Tejano music superstar Selena. The role launched Lopez into the stratosphere and she has never looked back. This Bronx, New York native has cultivated her diva like ways by surrounding herself with the hottest guys, demanding perfection, and working tirelessly on her image, including her famous posterior. She is such a diva, that she demanded millions for pictures of her twins after they were born, and she got six. Million dollars that is, reportedly the highest price ever paid for celebrity photos.
Like some other starlets, JLo has found relationships extra daunting, she has been married and divorced several times, she has been linked romantically with one of her (much younger) backup dancers, Casper Smart, who has faced “gay allegations” surprisingly not because he is a dancer, but because he was spotted leaving a porn shop where guys are known to go cruise.

Christina Aguilera is another native New Yorker, who was born in Staten Island. She got her big break along with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake on the 1990’s version of Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club. Her voice has always been her biggest asset, but her beauty has certainly helped her turn heads and get noticed, the world over. She gained international fame with her smash hits Genie in a Bottle and Come on Over from her debut self-titled album in 1999.
Over the years, she has cemented her status as a Diva and Gay Icon by speaking out in favor of marriage equality and by using images of gays and transsexuals in her video “You are Beautiful.” She has been a voice on several seasons of the hit TV show The Voice, where she is accused of Diva like behavior for her tardiness as well as making people wait.

Anyone who is famous for the line “It’s Britney, b!$ch, and has had 2 full Glee Episodes based on their work, has to be labeled Diva. From chopping off all her hair to making out with Madonna and Christina Aguilera onstage in front of millions of fans, you just never know what she’s going to do next.
Britney Spears was born in Mississippi and raised in Louisiana, making her the only non-New Yorker to make the list this week. Despite reported drug problems and mental breakdowns, she has proved she’s a diva based on her resiliency and her ability to bounce back. After all the problems she faced in the mid 2000’s, she went on to become the highest paid woman in the music business in 2012 earning more than 58 million.
