The Community Foundation of Broward has approved a $94,000 capacity building grant to the World AIDS Museum and Educational Center. The Community Foundation’s grant, from the John C. Graves Charitable Fund, will enable the Museum to establish a permanent site in Broward County and enhance sustainability efforts to grow the Museum in the future.
The Community Foundation of Broward has approved a $94,000 capacity building grant to the World AIDS Museum and Educational Center. The Community Foundation’s grant, from the John C. Graves Charitable Fund, will enable the Museum to establish a permanent site in Broward County and enhance sustainability efforts to grow the Museum in the future.
“This is a phenomenal opportunity to move the World AIDS Museum and Educational Center forward,” said Steve Stagon, the Museum’s CEO and President of the Board. “Our initial fundraising efforts have been highly successful and this generous contribution ensures that the museum will open in the next few months. This first phase is part of a long range plan to develop a first class museum.” Tasked with telling the story of HIV/AIDS throughout the world, the Museum has chosen the greater Fort Lauderdale, Florida area as its home.
Speaking on behalf of fellow John C. Graves Fund advisors Richard Salomon and Carl Trough, Dean Trantalis stated, “It is an honor to be able to participate in the effort to recognize and commemorate the efforts of the HIV/AIDS community and its history.” He went on to say that “it is a bold undertaking, but the challenge is well-placed in the hands of the Museum’s board.”
