The NOH8 Campaign, the photographic silent protest in support of LGBT rights created by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska and partner Jeff Parshley, will be returning to Florida soon with four chances for you to have your photograph taken. Bouska, Parshley and their team will be in Fort Lauderdale on May 3, in Tampa on May 4, in Lake Worth on May 5 and in Orlando on May 6.

Over 35,000 people have participated in the NOH8 campaign nationwide since 2009. The nohate_1campaign was originally started in response to the passage of California’s Proposition 8 in 2008. The duct tape on the mouths of each participant signifies the silencing of these people due to such hateful and discriminatory legislation. Even though Prop 8 has since been struck down, the movement continues, promoting marriage equality and human dignity.

To participate, solo photographs cost $40 and group photographs cost $25 per person photographed. Cash and credit/debit cards are accepted at the open photo shoots. Please wear a white T-shirt and be camera-ready!

nohate_99The money raised by the NOH8 campaign is used to sustain the organization and to pay for travel costs associated with the open photo shoots. Some of the money raised is also donated to various nationwide LGBT organizations such as The Gay and Lesbian Task Force, The Trevor Project, GLSEN, Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, the You Are Loved Project, Freedom to Marry and various AIDS Walk programs across the country.

All four Florida NOH8 photoshoots are sponsored by RE/MAX Town Centre (330 E. Central Blvd., Orlando). Here are details on how to attend each event:

Fort Lauderdale – The Fort Lauderdale NOH8 photoshoot will be held on Saturday, May 3 at the Westin Fort Lauderdale, located at 400 Corporate Drive. Adam Bouska will be in attendance taking photographs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Tampa – The Tampa NOH8 photoshoot will be held on Sunday, May 4 at the Sheraton Tampa East Hotel, located at 10221 Princess Palm Avenue. Like with the Fort Lauderdale photoshoot, the photos will be taken between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Lake Worth – The Lake Worth NOH8 photoshoot will be held on Monday, May 5 at Compass Community Centers, located at 201 N. Dixie Highway. Photos will be taken from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Orlando – The Orlando NOH8 photoshoot will be held on Tuesday, May 6 at Mingos, located on 100 S. Eola Drive, #105. Photos will be taken starting at 4 p.m. and will go on until 7 p.m. Anyone in line at 7 p.m. will be permitted to have their photograph taken.

If you’ve participated in the past, you are allowed to participate again. For example, I had my nohate_4photo taken in Arkansas back in 2011 but I will be having a new one taken this year! Come on out and show your support for human dignity with NOH8.
