Pues Adora, ahora que Gloria Estefan fue la Gran Mariscal de Miami Beach Gay Pride, soy curioso sobre la nueva película que Gloria y Emilio Estefan están produciendo. Puesto que usted, Elaine Lancaster, Noelle León, Tiffany Fantasia, Chyna Girl, Vinna Rouge, Poison Ivy, y otros talentos locales aparecen en la película, ¿qué se puede decir sobre la película?
Adora:
Se llama “cambio de corazón”, y se trata de un hombre (interpretado por Jim Belushi) que recibe un trasplante de corazón. Pues resulta que, el corazón que esté disponible es de un transexual y no está seguro de que quiere tener el corazón de un transexual … así, un montón de cosas pasan y la película se trata de las nociones preconcebidas y la realidad.
Teddy Behr:
¿A final, recibe el corazón, y cambia después de recibir el corazón?
Adora:
No voy a revelar esa información. Pero, el director, Kenny Ortega, quien también fue un gran mariscal para el orgullo gay y los Estefan son muy buena gente. Me alegro de que la película tiene un tema transexual, porque ya es hora de que nuestra comunidad transexual valiente obtiene el reconocimiento y la aceptación que se merece; Admiro a todos los transexuales que conozco, porque veo de cerca cuánto valor que tienen que tener para ser quienes realmente son.
Teddy Behr:
Estoy de acuerdo: es tan importante ser el verdadero tú, no sólo para ti, sino para todas las personas que te rodean también. Pero cuando significa asumir un género opuesto, o la vida sin género muchas personas no entienden o no hacen espacio en su cabeza para este tipo de “diferente”. Creo que en estos días, ser gay o lesbiana es fácil en comparación con ser transexual, pero no fue hace tanto tiempo que la corriente principal todavía le molestaba sólo simple Gay / Lesbian / Bi.
Adora:
Estoy muy contenta de que los Estefan están haciendo esta película. Ahora, estamos viendo los niños, incluso los niños de 3 años, que son transexuales. Sus padres están tratando de encontrar la manera de manejar la situación, sus escuelas también están haciendo un esfuerzo para ayudar a estos estudiantes. Yo realmente creo que cada sociedad, comunidad, lo que sea, necesita todas las personas diferentes que surgen en ella-como una especie de ecología humana, donde todas las partes son parte integral de la totalidad. Las películas son una gran manera de ayudar a la gente ver esto. Sé lo importante que son Drag Queens, y no tengo ninguna duda de que nuestros transexuales son tan necesarios. Y cuando voy a lugares donde no veo travestis o transexuales, me pongo muy aburrido, muy rápido.

So Adora, now that Gloria Estefan was the Grand Marshall for Miami Beach Gay Pride, I’m curious about the new movie Gloria and Emilio Estefan are producing. Since you, Elaine Lancaster, Noelle Leon, Tiffany Fantasia, Chyna Girl, Vinna Rouge, Poison Ivy, and other local talent appear in the movie, what can you tell about the film?
Adora:
It’s called ‘CHANGE OF HEART” and it’s about a guy (played by Jim Belushi) who gets a heart transplant. As it turns out, the heart that becomes available is from a transsexual and he’s not sure he wants to have the heart of a transsexual…so, a lot of things happen and the movie turns out to be about preconceived notions and reality.
Teddy Behr:
So does Jim Belushi eventually get the Transsexual’s heart and does it change him?
Adora:
I’m not giving that away. But, the Director, Kenny Ortega, who was also a Gay Pride Grand Marshall and the Estefans were really fun to work with. I’m glad the movie has a transsexual theme because it’s about time our courageous transsexual community gets the recognition and acceptance it deserves; I admire all the transsexuals I know because I see from close up how much courage they have to have to be who they really are.
Teddy:
I agree: it’s so important to be the real you, not just for yourself, but for all the people around you too. But when it means assuming a cross-gender, or non-gender life, a lot of people don’t understand, or don’t make space in their head for this kind of ‘different’. I think these days, being Gay or Lesbian is easy compared to being transsexual, but it wasn’t so long ago that the mainstream was still bothered about just plain Gay / Lesbian / Bi.
Adora:
I was so glad the Estefans are making this movie: Now we’re seeing kids, even 3-year-olds, who are transsexual. Their parents are trying to figure out how to handle it, so are schools. I really believe every society, community, whatever, needs all the different people that emerge in it- kind of like a human ecology, where all the parts are integral to the whole. The movies are a great place to help people see this. I know how important Drag Queens are, and I have no doubt that our transsexuals are just as necessary. And when I go places where I don’t see drag queens or transsexuals, I get very bored, very fast.
