Mona’s Cocktail Lounge (502 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale) is hosting their annual 4th of July party on Friday, July 4, starting at noon. This party, which will go on until 9 p.m. that night, is the fourth Independence Day fundraiser Mona’s has hosted that benefits the Pet Project for Pets.
Mona’s will be raffling off prizes all day long, with all the proceeds directly benefiting the Pet Project for Pets. Toni Barone and Russell will be hosting a live auction, the proceeds of which will also benefit the Pet Project. There will be games and various surprises throughout the day, and a hot dog cookout in the afternoon.
Jerry Schultz, owner of Mona’s Cocktail Lounge, is a firm believer in the Pet Project’s mission and has devoted a lot of time and energy to the non-profit organization. Recently he wrote a letter to friends and fellow businesspeople in which he said, in part, “Mona’s has been a supporter of many charities over the past 16 years…but the Pet Project is really dear to my heart. They say that everyone has a calling in life and I believe this one is mine. I want my pets (my family) to be as happy and as playful as they are today [and] if I ever have the misfortune of a disability, with Pet Project I know they will be in good hands.”
The Pet Project for Pets helps people in South Florida who are living with HIV/AIDS or other health conditions or disabilities to keep their pets, by aiding the pet owners in taking care of their animals. All too often you hear stories about people being forced to give up their animals due to people simply being unable to give their pets the loving care they need to thrive. The people at the Pet Project works with their clients to ensure that pets get to stay with their loving owners. The Pet Project provides services such as a food bank for pets, discounted veterinary services, transportation to the veterinarian for clients who have limited or no mobility, foster care for pets of clients who have to check in to the hospital, and volunteers who are willing to come to clients’ homes and walk, feed, and provide hygienic care to their pets.
