Impulse Group South Florida
works in the gay communities from Jupiter down to Miami to make sure sexually active gay men in the 18-35 age demographic are practicing safe sex and that they are aware of the risks of HIV and AIDS. They are celebrating the holidays at one of the most popular holiday events in South Florida, the Winterfest Boat Parade. The boat will be bringing passengers aboard at Coontie Hatchee Landings Park (1116 SW 15th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale) before 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 13. After 6 p.m., the boat will be traveling the parade route down the Intracoastal Waterway.
“Rise” is the Impulse Group South Florida’s annual holiday party, an invitation-only affair. The name “rise” comes from the theme of the party, “rise above the status quo.” The Impulse Group South Florida believes in discussing difficult issues such as sexual practices and how they may impact HIV transmission rates. In 2013, Broward County was ranked #1 out of all U.S. counties in terms of new HIV infections, something the Impulse Group is working actively to change.
The Winterfest Boat Parade, presented by Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywood, has been a Fort Lauderdale tradition since 1950. Over a million viewers will be watching in person and on WSVN-TV in south Florida.

Impulse Group works in conjunction with AIDS Healthcare Foundation to provide messaging, promote events, and reach out to the sexually active gay community (ages 18-35) to achieve advancement in HIV prevention and awareness. The group in South Florida was started as Impulse Group Fort Lauderdale in June 2013 and was rebranded this past summer to include members in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties as well.

It is not OK to segregate or discriminate and the only way we are going to break through that is by talking about it,” Impulse Group South Florida President A.J.
