January 3 and 4

By Mike Halterman

Three times a year, Las Olas Boulevard in downtown Fort Lauderdale is turned into an outside art fair as dozens of artists from across Florida and around the country display their works for inspiration to other artists and also for sale to art enthusiasts. Las Olas will be starting the new Art-Fair_copy3year with a delightfully creative art show, which over the past 27 years has grown to become the can’t miss art event in Broward County. The art show stretches across two days: Saturday, January 3 and Sunday, January 4.

Over 150 artists will be participating in 2015’s first Las Olas Art Show, an increase of about three dozen artists from the last art show in September. They will be setting up their works of art on Las Olas Avenue between SE 8th Avenue, past Federal Highway to SE 5th Avenue. The epicenter of all the action will be the corner of Federal Highway and Las Olas, adjacent to The Art-Fair_copyCheesecake Factory and one block away from the Historic Stranahan House Museum.

At the art show, people will be able to view works of art that range from watercolors on canvasses, to jewelry and handbags, to sculptures and pottery, to crochets and weavings. You will be able to meet all of the artists and see their works, ask them questions about their inspirations, inquire as to whether they can commission a specific piece for you, or arrange to buy some of the works of art that are on display. All the while, there are sidewalk cafes and shops to stop in on along the way as you traverse Las Olas Boulevard.

Admission is free and the event will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday, January 3, and on Sunday, January 4.

Thee Las Olas Art Fair is presented by Howard Alan Events and is sponsored in part by Sunshine Artist, the Sun-Sentinel and GEICO. For more information, visit lasolasartfair.com or call (561) 746-6615.
