You Just Can’t Make This Stuff Up!

Years ago, Mark was working in North Tampa at the University Restaurant on Fowler Avenue next to USF. There was a very famous local doctor’s wife who liked to drink there. Her first drink always cost $20. That was the price for her first drink and a cab to drive her home later. LOL

She would always sit in the same booth. One day after she left, we made a discovery! In the small paper table tent advertising a drink special were her teeth! She had taken them out and forgot them there! OMG! What to do?

We put them in a glass of vodka and called her husband. When her husband picked them up, he said, “This is not the first time. She is always leaving them somewhere.” LOL

Carl DeLong, Jr., Hillsborough County’s Oldest Cold Case

It is the oldest cold case on the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department’s books. Carl E. DeLong, Jr. was murdered in 1956 in Hillsborough County. His body was later found bludgeoned. A young Army man from St. Petersburg, he was last seen in downtown Tampa’s gay bar area.

We were part of a major Tampa Tribune feature story nine years ago that was over eight months of research in the making. We are still investigating with the help of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department in order to give the case closure. More details will be forthcoming.

Festa Italiana

It was another great weekend in historic Ybor City as we celebrated the annual Festa Italiana celebration. This benefit for the Italian Club Foundation offered the best-tasting entrees from over 150 of your favorite area restaurants. Everyone was Italian this past weekend! Centennial Park was packed with people basking in the hot Florida sun.

The famous Festa Italiana bocce ball tournament brought in over 60 teams from around the Tampa Bay area. Also, there was an Italian Wine Festival, an Italian movie night, and a stage full of entertainers who surely pleased the 20,000 attendees.

Miami Beach Gay Pride Goes International

The 7th annual Miami Beach Gay Pride Festival again shined its bright light on the Magic City. The grand marshal was TV host and star Mario Lopez. Many people said that Mario felt the pride! Hundreds of people from Tampa Bay traveled south for the huge rainbow carnival.

“It definitely was a very gay pride parade,” commented Michael Wilson, manager of Cristino’s. Michael ventured down to Miami with his traveling partner Frankie Cerna. Both of them are on the new Tampa Pride board. They met up with other Tampa locals including Ybor City Wine Bar owner Jayme Kosar, Nick and Tyler of Oxford Exchange, and Stephen Moss of Honey Pot and GBar.
