Compass, the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Palm Beach County, is ready for another fun and eventful Stonewall Ball. One of the most anticipated events on the Treasure Coast’s LGBT social calendar, it will be held once again at the Harriet Himmel Theater at CityPlace (700 S. Rosemary Ave.) in downtown West Palm Beach. The VIP reception begins at 7:30 p.m., with general admission ticketholders allowed to enter at 9 p.m. The festivities will include samplings of food and drinks, a silent auction, and dancing.
First held in 2002, the Stonewall Ball serves two key functions. First, the money raised via the silent auction allows for Compass to continue key services that they provide to LGBT people across the Treasure Coast. Second, it connects politicians and local dignitaries from Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River Counties together with Compass supporters and voters so they can mingle together and find out where they stand on issues apart from LGBT rights (of course the dignitaries and politicians who attend are very strongly supportive of LGBT issues). Over 1,000 people are expected to attend this year’s Stonewall Ball, a sharp rise from the 800 who attended last year’s event.
Organizers ask that supporters come dressed in the colors black and white, as these colors have been symbols of the Stonewall Ball ever since it was first held over a decade ago. The dress code is very flexible, and consists of anything ranging from Palm Beach casual, cocktail, or costumed attire. Feel free to dress up as much as you like, but remember to wear black and white!
General admission tickets cost $30 per person if purchased in advance, and $40 at the door. VIP reception tickets (which also include admission to the main event) cost $75. To purchase your tickets in advance, please visit compassglcc.com/swb.html.
